AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State track and field teams put on an impressive performance on their home track Saturday at the Big 4 Duals. Cyclone student-athletes won a total of nine events, notching nine personal records on the Lied Recreation Center's Harry Hoak Track.
Three-time All-American Edward Kemboi opened the 2015 season with a dominant showing in the men's 800-meter run. Kemboi clocked a time of 1:46.94 to take the win, notching the NCAA's second-fastest time of the young season. The Eldoret, Kenya, native is one of two in the NCAA to run sub-1:48 this year and has run 1:47 or better nine times in his collegiate career.
The ISU field event crew shined in today's competition, winning five event titles. Henry Kelley's victory in the weight throw came on a career performance that saw him hurl the weight a distance of 61 feet, 10.5 inches. The distance is good for the fourth-best mark in program history, improving his previous best by over 3 feet.
The Cyclones swept the high jump competitions, with Marine Vallet (women's) and Cameron Ostrowski (men's) taking the individual titles. Vallet cleared a height of 5'10.5" en route to the first-place finish, while Ostrowski leapt a height of 7'0.5" to take the win on the men's side.
Hannah Willms and Katie Reeves gave the ISU jumps crew a sweep in the women's high jump, placing second and third with marks of 5'8.5" and 5'6.5", respectively.
Cyclone newcomer Jhoanmy Luque jumped her way into the program's all-time lists in the long jump, posting a mark of 19'8" to rank at No. 6 in program history.
In the men's shot put, Jan Jeuschede was strong in his season opener, taking the win with a scoring throw of 59'5.5". Jeuschede's throw was nearly 2 feet farther than the next-closest competitor.
Kendra White picked up her second 400-meter dash title in as many races, posting a season-best 54.31.
Brian Biekert and Colleen Riley also picked up event titles for the ISU distance squads, winning the men's mile and women's 3,000m, respectively.
