TUCSON, Ariz. – The Iowa State men's golf team opened up its spring season today with the first round of the Arizona Intercollegiate. The second round was suspended due to darkness and teams will conclude the second round before the third round tomorrow.
The Cyclones recorded a first-round 287 to occupy fifth place through 18 holes. UTEP is leading at 283. New Mexico's Gavin Green and BYU's Jordan Rodgers are leaders in the medalist after carding a pair of 68s.
Senior Scott Fernandez and sophomore Nick Voke are pacing the Cyclones. Voke recorded a 70 to sit in a tie for seventh with Fernandez right behind him at 71 (T14). Senior Sam Daley also shot a 71.
Sophomore Ruben Sondjaja shot a 75 and Jack Carter shot an 80.
