Winter Training (Swimmers Only)

01.06.2015 | Swimming and Diving
Hello Cyclone family and friends.
Today marks the second full day of training here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Some of us “early risers” were in our bathing suits at 9 a.m. lying on the beach getting our tan on. Other activities included seashell collecting, riding waves, and taking long walks on the beach. Alex Flatness had quite the eventful morning. She got pinched in the foot by a crab (no injury resulted). Many of the swimmers joined the beach crew until we had to head to practice.
In order to make it to the Pompano Beach training facility for our 12 p.m. long course practice, we loaded our designated vans at 11:30 a.m. The team was divided into three groups: distance, middle distance, and sprint. The distance squad had a pulling/swimming workout as their main set, while the middle distance and sprint groups worked with equipment such as tubing and parachutes.
Once we arrived back to the Windjammer, we grabbed a quick lunch/snack. The weather has treated us quite nicely since we have been in Florida (70 to 80-degree weather). A large number of us headed to the beach to catch some rays and play in the ocean. The wind picked up around 3:30, causing most of the team to move into their rooms. Many girls took naps or hung out at the hotel. Others, such as I, walked around the downtown shopping area. We spent our free time looking at the clothing, trinkets, candy, and of course, the adorable puppies in the store, “Diamonds and Doggies”.
After we ate our dinners in our hotel rooms, we loaded the vans at 7:40 to head to Westminster Academy for our first short course practice of the training trip. Once again, practice was split into three groups: IM, middle distance, and fly. All groups had a timed set within their workouts. Coaches were pleased with our efforts. We rushed back to the Windjammer to relax and rest up for the third day of training.
Hopefully tomorrow will be as nice as today. Goodnight Cyclone Nation.
