AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men's golf team signed four players to national letters of intent for its class of 2017, Iowa State head coach Andrew Tank announced today.
Lachlan Barker, Frank Lindwall, Danny Daniels and Ricky Costello will all enroll at Iowa State in the fall of 2017.
"I am excited to welcome Lachlan, Frank, Danny, and Ricky to the Cyclone Golf Family," Tank said. "They are strong competitors and will be great representatives of Iowa State."
Barker, who hails from Willunga, Australia, has an impressive resume as one of the best junior golfers in Australia. He won the Malaysian Amateur Open and placed third at the Australian Junior Championships in 2016.
Barker also represented Australia at the World Junior Championships at Torrey Pines, tying for 18th (70-74-77-73=294).
Lindwall, who prepped at Cedar Rapids Washington, is a three-time first-team all-state performer. He was the 2016 AJGA Under Armour Hunter Mahan champion (70-72=142) and runner-up at the 2015 AJGA Kansas Junior.
Lindwall qualified for the 2015 United States Junior Amateur and was the 2016 Iowa Section PGA Junior champion (68-70=138), earning a spot at the national tournament.
Daniels, a native of Hertfordshire, England, has produced a number of top-10 finishes as a member of the England Boys Squad. He placed sixth in the British Boys Amateur Championships, second in the South East Boys Championships, tied for fifth in the Canadian Junior International Challenge and was medalist at the Golfing for Life Invitational.
Daniels was also honored as the Challenge Trophy Champion for having the best stroke average in the state (70.2).
Costello was a decorated prep golfer at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, Ill. In 2016, Costello was named an Esmark High School All-American golfer. He was a four-time state finalist, placing twice by finishing fourth and sixth, respectively, at the state tournament.
As a senior, Costello posted a 71.40 stroke average, which included a 66 at the Regional Championship where he earned medalist honors. He also had several top-five tournament appearances at Mid-American Junior Golf Tour events, including winning medalist honors at the Mistwood Autumn Open (73-67=140).
"Each of these guys has a strong desire to improve," Tank said. "I am excited to support them during their careers as Cyclones."
