TUCSON, Arizona – Iowa State junior Nick Voke held steady in the final round of the NIT this afternoon, firing a 72 to share medalist honors with a three-day 205 tally.
Voke, who tied with New Mexico's Gustavo Morantes for the individual title, was 1-over through his first seven holes this afternoon. However, Voke promptly rallied by going 1-under in the last 11 holes to hold off a late charge from Morantes.
The victory was Voke's third of his outstanding career, tying him for second all-time in career victories at Iowa State. Scott Fernandez owns the school record with four medalist titles from 2012-15.
Voke's 11-under 205 total tied his career low and also tied for the fourth lowest 54-hole score in school history. Voke now has three top-10 finishes this season and 11 in his career. His 7-under 65 in the second round tied for the lowest 18-hole score in school history in relation to par. Only four Cyclones have carded a 7-under 18-hole round. Voke is the only Cyclone to accomplish the feat twice.
The Cyclones as a team finished the tournament in eighth place at 867. Santa Clara was the team champion at 846.
Junior Ruben Sondjaja was the low Cyclone today with a 2-under 70. Sondjaja, who had five birdies and three bogies on his card today, tied for 27th at 217.
The Cyclones are back in action at the General Hackler Championship, March 12-13.
