AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior golfer
Nick Voke will participate in the NCAA Stillwater Regional at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma, May 16-18.
Voke is one of 75 players total and one of five competitors to receive individual berths competing in Stillwater this week. He will have to be the low scorer among all of the players not on a NCAA-qualifying team (five teams advance) to make it to the 2016 NCAA Championship, May 27-June 1 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
Voke will attempt to be the first Cyclone to reach the NCAA finals as an individual since Nate McCoy did it in 2012. As a team, Iowa State advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2014 for the first time in 61 years. Voke, who was a freshman that season, was unable to compete because of a season-ending injury suffered after the Big 12 Championship.
A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Voke led the Cyclones in stroke average (71.15) and top-10 finishes (6) this year. His 71.15 scoring mark is on pace to set the single-season record.
Voke won his third career tournament title at the National Invitation Tournament in March and he set the school's 54-hole record for low score with a 201 (68-68-65) at the ASU Thunderbird Invite.
Ranked 70th nationally by Golfweek, Voke became the only Cyclone in school history to place in the top-10 at the Big 12 Championship three times after finishing eighth at the 2016 Big 12 Championship.
He was also named First Team All-Big 12 by the leauge's coaches.
