AMES, Iowa – The second meet of this year's Iowa State swimming and diving season will feature the Omaha Mavericks rolling into Ames for a 6 p.m. meet on Friday, Oct. 27. The Cyclones come in 0-1 on the year, while the Mavericks are 0-2. Admission to the meet is free.
LAST TIME – At Nebraska
The Cyclones opened the regular season on the road in Lincoln, Nebraska for a meet against the Huskers. Despite having lost in the dual meet, the freestyle events were a positive for the Cyclones. Newcomer Anna Andersen secured a victory in the 100 free and senior Laura Miksch notched a first-place finish in the 50 free.
THE OPPONENT – Omaha Mavericks
The Mavericks went out to Colorado for a double dual with Air Force and New Mexico on Oct. 14, losing to both squads by over 90 points. With Omaha coming in 0-2 on the young dual meet season, the Cyclones will look to keep their head-to-head record unscathed against the Mavericks, having gone 15-0 against them all-time.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Breaststroke
A pair of Cyclone breaststrokers come into Friday with different scenarios, but their continual push of one another is producing for Iowa State. Martha Haas is coming into her second regular season meet, with senior Danica Delaquis as her mentor. Both swimmers had strong times in Lincoln last weekend and will look to keep improving.
ON DECK – TCU/USD
Iowa State will have a bye weekend on Nov. 4 before hosting TCU and South Dakota on Nov. 10. The Cyclones hold an all-time record of 9-0 against the Coyotes and 2-1-1 versus the Horned Frogs. Iowa State tied TCU in Fort Worth last year. The double dual will kick off at 11 a.m. in Beyer Hall. Admission will be free to the meet.
