TUCSON, Ariz. – The Iowa State men's golf team is off to a fantastic start at the National Invitation Tournament through 36 holes of play. The Cyclones are currently in first place after posting rounds of 274 and 275 (549) today.
The tournament appears to be a three-team race, as the Cyclones are one shot ahead of Arizona State (550) and six strokes better than UNLV (555). Fourth-place UTEP is 20 shots behind the Cyclones at 569.
The Cyclones led after the first round by carding a 14-under 274, which tied for the fifth-best 18-hole score in school history. ISU followed that up with a second-round 275 (13-under).
Individually, Cyclone senior Nick Voke is tied for first in the medalist race at 10-under with rounds of 66-68 (134). Voke had 11 birdies and an eagle on the day. He now has 34 career rounds in the 60s.
Denzel Ieremia joins Voke in the top-10 in a tie for fourth at 135. Ieremia fired rounds of 68 and 67 with 13 birdies on the day.
All five Cyclones are currently in the top-25: Tripp Kinney (T14, 141), Ruben Sondjaja (T22, 143) and Sam Vincent (T22, 143).
The third and final round will conclude tomorrow.
