10.25.2018 | Swimming and Diving
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Cyclones swimming and diving (2-0) will dual the Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-0) on Friday night at 5 p.m. The Cyclones will look to use their home-pool advantage to take down the Cornhuskers, who have already defeated South Dakota State and Northern Iowa at home this season. The meet will be livestreamed on the swimming and diving Facebook page.
THE OPPONENT – Nebraska Cornhuskers
In last year's season opener, Iowa State fell 102-193 in Lincoln. Keely Soellner helped keep the Cyclones close throughout the meet with a pair of top-three finishes, while Anna Andersen performed well by winning the 100 free. The Cyclones must out-touch Nebraska's swimmers for event victories to maximize their score on Friday and come out with a victory.
Iowa State is only 6-37-1 against Nebraska, but kept it very close in recent years. The Cyclones tied the Cornhuskers back in 2013-14, and lost on the final the following year. Iowa State will look to turn things around against the former Big 12 foe on Friday.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Sprint Freestyle
Andersen and Elynn Tan have been posting solid times in the sprint free events, and key victories in these events could propel Iowa State past Nebraska. Laura Miksch and Andersen combined to win the events last season, and another pair of wins is crucial. Freshman Emily Haan will also factor into the equation, coming off her first event win in Brookings last weekend.
ON DECK – Double Dual in Dallas
The Cyclones are heading south for their first taste of Big 12 action. Iowa State will meet up with TCU on their road trip to SMU's Barr-McMillon Natatorium. This will be the first meeting between the Cyclones and Mustangs and the sixth meeting between the Iowa State and TCU.
