Completed Event: Swimming and Diving versus Big 12 Duals on January 16, 2026 , , 5th, 781 points

11.01.2018 | Swimming and Diving
DALLAS, Texas – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (2-1) heads to Dallas, Texas on Friday where they will meet up with Big 12 foe TCU (1-1, 0-1 Big 12) at SMU's (1-1) Barr-McMillion Natatorium. Last year, Iowa State picked up its third win over TCU by a score of 196-103, while Friday will mark the first meeting between Iowa State and SMU. Friday's meet will be livestreamed by SMU.
THE OPPONENT – TCU Horned Frogs
Iowa State and TCU meet for the first time at a neutral site, but will compete against one another in their second double-dual. Last year, Iowa State took down both TCU and South Dakota in Beyer Pool. The Cyclones hold a 3-1-1 record against the Horned Frogs, having tied back in 2016-17.
In last year's affair, the sprint freestyle propelled the Cyclones, with Laura Miksch and Anna Andersen winning the 50 and 100 free. With Andersen back for her junior campaign and freshman Elynn Tan stepping up in the 50 free, the Cyclones should be in good shape to take down TCU once again. Diving will also be key on Friday, as both the Cyclone and Horned Frog divers have posted similar scores on the springboards in the early stages of 2018-19.
THE OPPONENT – SMU Mustangs
The Cyclones will add a new team to their all-time series list in the SMU Mustangs. SMU has just one dual meet under their belt; a double-dual with Houston and North Texas. The Mustangs narrowly lost to the Cougars, but easily took down the Mean Green. Their other competition was a championship-style meet, in which SMU finished sixth of six in the SMU Classic.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Relays
Iowa State won both relays in their last dual meet against Nebraska. In order to set the tone against a pair of strong opponents, the Cyclones need to provide a solid performance in the opening relay. The Iowa State-TCU series has been within 40 points in three-of-five meets, including a tie back in 2016-17, so every point will be crucial for a Cyclone victory. Both relay squads will likely feature Tan and Emily Haan. A pair of fast splits from the freshmen will complement the other members of each squad.
ON DECK – Kansas Classic/Iowa Invitational
Iowa State has an off-weekend following the trip to Dallas, returning to action on Nov. 15-18 with the divers headed to Iowa City for the Iowa Invitational and the swimmers starting the Kansas Classic on Nov. 16 in Topeka. Senior swimmer Haley Ruegemer was named to the 2017 Kansas Classic All-Invite team in last year's competition.
