SOUTH BEND, Indiana – Iowa State track and field had a pair of strong showings in its Saturday competitions. At the Parents Day Invite at Minnesota, the Cyclones recorded a 1-2 finish in the women's 800. At the Alex Wilson Invitational, the men's distance medley relay team produced one of the top performances in school history.
The Cyclone men's distance medley relay team had an outstanding performance at Notre Dame, as the quartet of Zach Black, Jaymes Dennison, Roshon Roomes and Dan Curts took second in Section 2 and seventh overall in 9:32.14. The time is the second-fastest in school history, only bettered by a 9:31.85 three years ago at the Alex Wilson Invitational by Edward Kemboi, Derek Jones, Patrick Peterson and Brian Biekert.
At the time of publication, Iowa State's mark ranks No. 14 in Division I for the season. The Cyclones are just outside the top-12 to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in three weeks.
Meanwhile, the No. 20 Iowa State women took the top-two spots in the 800-meter run at the Parents Day Invite at Minnesota. The Cyclones utilized Jasmine Staebler to pace for Larkin Chapman and Erinn Stenman-Fahey in the fast section. Stenman-Fahey crossed first in 2:07.46 with Chapman right there at 2:07.52 for second. Due to the flat 200-meter oval at Minnesota, those times are unofficially converted to a 2:06.01 for Stenman-Fahey and a 2:06.07 for Chapman.
At the time of publication, the duo now ranks 21st and 22nd in Division I in the 800 this season.
