Henderson Wins to Lead ISU at Musco Twilight

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Essence Henderson led the Iowa State throwers at the Musco Twilight on Thursday, posting a personal best to win the women's shot put. The Cyclone throwers combined for five personal bests across their 10 entries on the day.
Henderson had the two best throws of the shot put competition, her fifth one being the winning-mark at 51-7 1/4 (15.73m). Her efforts moved her up to No. 5 in ISU history for the event. In the discus, Henderson took third with a best of 154-0 (46.94m).
Both of ISU's women's hammer throwers got personal bests. Christabel Okeke took fourth, with her third throw of the day going 187-0 (57.01m). Tessa Krempel improved on her PR from last season's Big 12 Championships by three feet, finishing eighth with a best toss of 175-5 (53.48m).
Vlad Pavlenko led the day for ISU in the men's hammer throw, taking second with a final throw of 190-8 (58.11m). Pavlenko was in fifth after four rounds, but bounced back with a pair of throws over the 190-foot mark to move up to second. Chris Celona finished fourth (184-4, 56.18m), while Brett Peters got a personal best, the third outdoor meet he has done so this season, at 178-5 (54.39m).
In the javelin, Blake Hughes had the best effort of his Iowa State career, as his second-place javelin throw of 168-3 (51.29m) was an over four-foot improvement on his previous personal best.
