FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Iowa State wrapped up the Razorback Invitational with many impressive performances Saturday at the Tyson Track Center. Up against some of the nation's top performers, the Cyclones walked out of Arkansas with many notable runs, including a trio of second places finishes by Edwin Kurgat, Roshon Roomes and Cailie Logue.
Kurgat took command of the field after the pacer from Arkansas dropped out after 2,000m. A trio of runners from Purdue came to compete at the front, too, but it was Oregon's Charlie Hunter who made a big pass push Kurgat back to fifth at the bell. Kurgat did a lot of work on the backstretch and final turn to get back into second, but could not catch Tuner. Kurgat marked his season debut in second at a 3,000m time of 8:00.23, John Nownes was eighth in 8:12.41.
Roomes led for the first 500 meters of the race, but was passed by Mississippi State's Marco Arop halfway through the third lap. Despite that, Roomes was able to solidify that second position and run his best indoor 800 time as a Cyclone at 1:48.94. His mark moves him up to No. 5 in ISU history for the indoor 800 meters.
The Cyclones were busy in the women's 3,000-meter invitational, with six Cyclones involved in the competition. With Arkansas' Taylor Werner pulling away for the victory, the Cyclones took control of the rest of the back, with ISU's trio of Anne Frisbie, Cailie Logue and Amanda Vestri taking control of the pack. Logue led the ISU contingent in second in 9:25.34, with Vestri third in 9:26.48 and Frisbie fifth in 9:27.83.
In her second meet as a Cyclone, Keira Christie-Galloway continued to show her prowess and abilities in the hurdles. The Canadian highlighted the hurdles prelims with a personal best 8.29, a 0.06 second improvement from prelims and two-hundredths off her personal best from last season.
