AMES, Iowa – The No. 12 Iowa State wrestling team (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) opens the 2019-20 dual season with a showdown with Bucknell (0-1, 0-0 EIWA) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.

CYCLONE HEADLINES
1. Iowa State opens the 2019-20 dual season with a contest against Bucknell in Hilton Coliseum on Sunday at 1 p.m.
2. A troupe of Iowa State grapplers will also be competing at the Grand View Open on Saturday.
3. Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser enters his third season as Iowa State's head coach. Dresser is the reigning Big 12 Coach of the Year and NWCA National Coach of the Year.
4. The Cyclones are ranked No. 12 in the NWCA National Coaches' Poll this week. ISU is also ranked No. 8, 8 and 9 in the InterMat, FloWrestling andTrackWrestling team rankings.
5. Alex Mackall (8, 8, 9), Austin Gomez (5, 5, 5), Ian Parker (12, 13, 15), Jarrett Degen (4, 4, 6), David Carr (11, 20, 6), Chase Straw (20, NR, 20) Marcus Coleman (NR, NR, 18) Sam Colbray (8, 6, 8), Joel Shapiro (NR, NR, 23) and Gannon Gremmel (16, 16, 15) all are ranked in the Intermat, FloWrestling and Trackwrestling polls this week.
6. Iowa State's 10 individually ranked wrestlers are the most of any Big 12 team.
7. Last weekend, ISU hosted the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open. Iowa State saw championship performances in the Open Division from Mackall (125), Todd Small (133), Straw (165) and Gremmel (285). In the Freshman/Sophomore Division, Grant Stotts (157) and Tate Battani (184) also brought home individual titles. In total, 27 Cyclones finished in the top-six of their respective weight classes.
8. The Cyclone wrestling roster continues to mature. After only returning one NCAA Qualifier for the 2018-19 season, Iowa State will return eight NCAA Qualifiers (Mackall, Gomez, Parker, Degen, Straw, Coleman, Colbray and Gremmel) and one All-American (Degen).
9. Iowa State also returns 88% of its dual wins, 90% of its dual points scored and 90% of its total team wins from the 2018-19 squad.
10. Beyond that, Iowa State will have 66% of its dual starts over the past two seasons on the roster in 2019-20.
11. Chase Straw has started in 32 consecutive duals for the Cyclones dating back to the beginning of the 2017-18 season.
12. Gomez, Degen and Coleman all finished the season with a team-high 40 takedowns in duals. Gomez led the team in total back points in dual matches (52) and points scored per dual match (11.5).
13. One of the most anticipated debuts nationally will be David Carr. Carr projects to be the starter at 157 pounds against the Bison on Sunday.
14. This fall, Carr made Iowa State history before ever taking the mat for the Cyclones. He won the 74 kg gold medal at the Junior World Championships to become Iowa State's first-ever Junior World Champion. He is the second Cyclone to medal at the Junior World Championships, joining Zach Thompson (Silver, 1998 - 90 kg).
15. Iowa State will also see dual debuts from Todd Small (133) and Joel Shapiro or Francis Duggan (197).
16. Dresser made two additions to his coaching staff for the 2019-20 season. Iowa State will retain Miklus as the team's Graduate Assistant and added three-time NCAA Qualifier Joey Palmer (Oregon State) as its Volunteer Assistant Coach.
17. Iowa State's home dual attendance in 2018-19 (3,569) ranked sixth nationally. It was also the fourth best attendance mark in the last 25 years.
18. Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard announced that Iowa State wrestling season ticket sales have surpassed the 2,000 mark, making it a new school record.
19. Dresser improved his all-time dual wins to 178 last season. He currently ranks as the No. 17 winningest active coach in Division I wrestling.
