AUSTIN, Texas – The Iowa State Cyclones (7-4, 2-1 Big 12) are in third place after the first day of competition at the 2019 Big 12 Championships. The meet kicked off in style with a school record in the 200 medley relay.
In the first event of the meet, Iowa State came in second with a school record-setting performance in the 200 medley relay. Emily Haan, Martha Haas, Elynn Tan and Evan Hundley broke a record that has stood for over nine years with their time of 1:39.83. They are the first group of Cyclones to break the 1:40.00 mark in the event.
The 800 free relay featured the team of Haley Ruegemer, Anna Andersen, Emma Ruehle and Lucia Rizzo. They posted a 7:17.39, the second-fastest time in school history. The school record still stands from last year's squad. Ruegemer now ranks ninth all-time in the 200 free with her lead time of 1:49.92.
During this morning's time trials, Kat Jones set a new 100 free PR with a 53.00. Kennedy Tranel also logged a 100 free time of 52.43, only 0.1 off her personal best.
