MADISON, Wis. – The Iowa State men's golf team began their 2019-20 campaign with a tied for eighth finish at the Badger Invitational with a three-day total of 867 (290-284-293). Preseason All American Tripp Kinney was terrific in all three rounds, finishing in third place individually at 206 (70-68-68).

Nevada's Sam Harned, who turned in an impressive eight-under 64 in the final round, edged Kinney by two strokes for individual medalist honors.

Kinney pieced together three consecutive rounds of below-par golf, firing rounds of 70-68-68 for a 10-under total (206) for the tournament. His 54-hole tally of 206 is tied for the second lowest of Kinney's career. It is the ninth time the Waukee, Iowa, native has finished in the top-10.

Juniors Lachlan Barker and Ricky Costello both turned in top-30 performances at University Ridge Golf Course. Barker finished tied for 27^th at 218 (72-72-74), while Costello posted a tied for 29^th finish with a 219 (72-71-76).

The men will be back in action next week at the Windon Memorial in Lake Forest, Ill., on Sept. 16-17.
