Kinney, Barker To Compete At U.S. Amateur

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State golfing standouts Tripp Kinney and Lachlan Barker will participate in the 120^th United States Amateur, August 10-16 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.

Because of the outbreak of COVID-19, local qualifying was cancelled this season. Both Kinney and Barker were able to secure bids by being ranked in the top-225 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Kinney is ranked No. 68 and Barker is No. 185.

All competitors will play 36 holes of stroke play on Aug. 10-11. The top 64 players will advance to the match play portion of the tournament beginning on Aug. 12.

A native of Waukee, Iowa, Kinney was a Ping All-Central Region pick for the second season in a row after setting the school single-season stroke average mark of 70.89. Kinney, who ended the season ranked 68^th nationally by Golfstat, qualified as an individual to the 2019 NCAA Championships, tying for 47^th.

Barker, who hails Willunga, Australia, was second on the team in stroke average in 2019-20 at 71.94. He has 10 top-10 performances in his career and owns the best career stroke average in school history at 71.72.

The duo will also compete at the prestigious Western Amateur, July 27-Aug. 1 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
