Swimming and Diving to Begin Season at Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (0-0) kicks off its regular season against the Omaha Mavericks (2-1, 0-0 Summit) on Jan. 16 starting at 1 p.m. The Cyclones will travel to H&K Pool where the teams will meet for the 19th time in school history. This will be the Cyclones' first dual meet since last season's Kansas dual, a span of 343 days.
THE OPPONENT- Omaha Mavericks
The Mavericks began competition on Oct. 24, resulting in a win against Midland. Omaha's first loss came from Big 12 opponent Kansas. Omaha also saw action against Williams Baptist and at the Midland Mid-Season Update in their fall season. The Jan. 16 dual will be both the Cyclones and the Mavericks first taste of competition in 2021. A live stream of the action can be found at the Iowa State swimming and diving Facebook page.
The Cyclones hold an overall record of 18-0 against Omaha. Last year, the Cyclones overtook the Mavericks at Beyer Hall by a score of 206-88. The 118-point victory was recorded as the second-largest margin of victory against Omaha.
LAST TIME- Cyclone Championship
Iowa State closed out fall competition with a three-day championship-style meet in December. Eleven student-athletes claimed personal records in addition to breaking two pool records. The intrasquad meet also featured season-best times and scores in all events. Divers had dominating performances as they sealed five Zone-qualifying scores.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Newcomers
Newcomers have asserted their dominance in intrasquad meets this season. Distance events have been marked with shining performances. Newcomers will get their first chance to compete in a scoring competition as a Cyclone with the Omaha dual.
ON DECK- Senior Day
The Cyclones host UNI for senior day on Saturday, Jan. 30. The meet marks the first home dual of the 2020-21 season.
