AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) hosts UNI (0-0, 0-0 MVC) on Jan. 30 starting at 1 p.m. The Cyclones will also honor seven seniors, with the senior day presentation beginning at 12:45 p.m. Spectators will be limited to two family guests per student-athlete.
THE OPPONENT- UNI
Overall, the Cyclones hold an all-time record of 32-1 with the Panthers, with the loss coming in 1992. Iowa State bested Northern Iowa last season 240-108, where Iowa State took hold of 15 titles out of 19 events in the double dual against UNI and North Texas.Â
The Panthers opened their season with an intrasquad meet on Jan. 23. Tomorrow's dual marks Northern Iowa's first scoring dual of their season. The competition will be livestreamed on the Iowa State swimming and diving Facebook page. Diving events can be streamed at this link.Â
LAST TIME- Omaha
Iowa State jumped out to 1-0 on the season with their victory of 187-79 against Omaha. The Cyclones topped all 16 events as newcomers accounted for six event titles. Notable newcomer performances included Paige Hanley's as she came away with her first Cyclone career victory with a time of 30.32 in the 50 breast. Freshman Andie Quirke timed in first with the only time sub-25 seconds in the 50 free (24.86).Â
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Diving
Divers have collectively secured eight Zone-qualifying scores through prelims and finals of their first two competitions. Both sophomore Jayna Misra and junior Michelle Schlossmacher Smith have made improvements upon the all-time lists this season. Schlossmacher Smith has improved to the No. 6 performer on the one-meter and to No. 7 on the platform. Misra is now No. 5 on the one-meter and No. 9 on the platform. Misra also secured an all-time top score, now holding the sixth-best score on the one-meter. Misra is the only current diver to hold an all-time top score.
Joscelyn Buss made her entrance onto the freshman records list with her performance on the platform at the Cyclone Championship. Buss' score of 206.55 puts her at fourth on the list. The freshman also dove to two third-place finishes on the one- and three-meter against Omaha in the first scoring competition of her collegiate career.Â
ON DECK- Kansas
The Cyclones travel to Lawrence, Kan. for a two-day meet on Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. and Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. The Kansas meet is the final dual before Iowa State heads to the Big 12 Championship.Â
