AMES, Iowa – Thasaporn Naklo continued to roll through the competition as the sophomore defeated No. 78 Anika Yarlagadda of North Carolina in straight sets to capture the title at the Kitty Harrison Invitational as Iowa State wrapped up its first weekend of action this fall.
KITTY HARRISON INVITATIONAL
Naklo, who entered the weekend as the nation's 38th-ranked player, cruised to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Yarlagadda to extend her win streak to six straight matches dating back to last season. During the six match winning streak, Naklo has defeated four ranked opponents.
Naklo wasn't the only Cyclone to have success on Sunday as ISU players finished 4-0 in singles action.
No. 91 Miska Kadleckova beat Princeton's Maia Sung to capture the consolation title despite dropping the first set. The final score was 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8).
Christin Hsieh and Sofia Cabezas each captured wins to finish the weekend 2-2.
Hsieh and Naklo also earned a doubles victory with a 6-0 victory over North Carolina's Kacie Harvey and Lindsay Zink.
GOPHER INVITATIONAL
Kezuka finished the weekend 3-1 in singles action after defeating Drake's Darinka Stepan.
In doubles action, Kezuka finished a weekend of pairing up with other schools with a 3-2 record. On Sunday, Kezuka and Minnesota's Vasiliki Karvouni fell to North Dakota's duo of Sapir Sela and Andrea Jansson, 7-5.
