Iowa State's running entries include many stars. On the men's side, a group of Cyclone cross country student-athletes who helped guide ISU to second at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November will be beginning their track and field seasons. Cross country All-American Thomas Pollard is entered in the 800-meter run and the mile, as is All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region performer Gable Sieperda. Chad Johnson is also slated to make his season debut in the 800-meter run and 1,000m.
ISU's middle distance men's group got off to a strong start in December and will be getting ready for more big competitions ahead. Cebastian Gentil, who ranks No. 3 in the country at 800m after a 1:48.95 in Ames in December, is entered in the 400m and 600mand will be joined in those races by Frank Hayes and Alex Lomong, both of whom are top-11 nationally at 800m. Nehemia Too, who enters the weekend No. 4 at 800m, is entered in the 800m and 1,000m runs.
For the Cyclone women, ISU's hurdlers got off to a strong start in Ames last month and will look to continue that, with Kaylyn Hall and Katarina Vlahovic both entered in the 60-meter hurdles. ISU's throwers also had strong performances in the weight throw and the trio of Antonella Creazzola, Danielle Hoyle and Emily March are all entered to be in action in the weight throw again on Friday.
