ISU Closes Out Non-Conference at Saint Louis Tournament

AMES, Iowa – The Cyclones (5-5) take on the final competition before conference play with the Billiken Classic hosted by Saint Louis. Iowa State first meets Kansas City (3-7) Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a double-header on Saturday with Missouri State (2-7) at 1 p.m. and Saint Louis (6-3) at 7 p.m.

The match against Saint Louis will be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT

Jaden Newsome moved up to No. 14 in program history as she now holds 1,314 assists on her ISU career. Eleanor Holthaus added to her total at No. 6 with 1,254 career kills, 80 away from the fifth spot. Holthaus is also three blocks away from the 14^th slot on the Iowa State career block list with 303 total.

Sophomore Allie Petry totaled 28 digs against UNI, a career high and the first time since Oct. 31, 2021 a Cyclone tallied 25 or more digs.

Iowa State put up their 111th block of the season to lead the nation following the UNI match. The team's 2.78 blocks per set ranks 18^th in NCAA D1. Kelsey Perry continues to hold the top spot among Big 12 rankings with 1.56 blocks per set. Iowa State has out-blocked opponents in seven of 10 matches this season.

KANSAS CITY

Iowa State will meet Kansas City for the 13^th time in program history as the Cyclones stand undefeated in the series at 12-0. Friday marks the first meeting since 2006.

Kansas City has been handed losses from Big 12 opponents Kansas and Kansas State this season. Against Kansas, the Roos won a set as they were ranked 19^th in the country on Sept. 7. UMKC met a common opponent in Wichita State this season, where they lost 3-0 but extended the third set as the Shockers won 31-29. Head Coach Christi Posey is in her 12^th season with Kansas City and 39^th year overall.

MISSOURI STATE

The first meeting between ISU and MSU was in the 1978 season, while Missouri State leads the all-time series at 9-5. The two most recent meetings occurred in 2016 with a Cyclone win and in 2005 with a five-set loss.

The Bears hold a record of 2-7 overall with wins over Tennessee Tech and Villanova. Last weekend, MSU reverse swept Villanova for the victory with 57 kills and 11 blocks. Head Coach Steven McRoberts is in his third season with Missouri State. Prior to his current role, McRoberts led the University of Mississippi over six years. In 17 years of coaching at the Division I level, McRoberts owns a record of 621-272.

SAINT LOUIS

Iowa State holds the all-time advantage with a series record of 4-1, with the only loss coming from the 1977 season. Saturday will be the first matchup with the Billikens since 1979.

The Billikens are off to a 6-3 start this season. Atlantic 10 Conference co-Player of the Week Emily Henken totaled 49 kills at 4.08 per set in two victories this past week. Saint Louis is led by Kent Miller who is in his 12^th year and coached the team to an 18-12 record in 2021.
