Three All-Time Performances Notched in Day One

LINCOLN, Neb. – Iowa State capped the first day of the Graduate Classic with three all-time indoor top performances and an event title.
Two all-time performances were set in the weight throw as Cam Jones moved up the ranks to No. 2 and Rebecca Manteuffel posted the ninth-best mark on the women's side. Peter Smith joined in changing the record books notching the 10th-fastest 1,000-meter run time in Iowa State history.
Jones hit the mark with his third throw of 69-7 (21.21m) to place second in the event. The throw topped his personal record set at this season's ISU Holiday Invite of 66-3 (20.19m), previously the fourth-best throw all-time.
Smith took the title in the 1,000-meter run with 2:22.89 to lead the pack of three ISU top-four finishers. Freshman Emanuel Galdino crossed the finish line third with 2:23.77 followed by Nehemia Too in 2:25.80.
Manteuffel got her all-time mark as she threw 61-0 1/4 (18.60m) to record herself at No. 9 in program history while taking second in the event. In Kaitlyn Burson's ISU debut, the junior posted a throw of 59-11 1/4 (18.27m) for fifth.
Sydney Willits placed third in the long jump with a jump of 18-4 1/4 (5.59m). Willits hit the mark with her first jump.
In 60-meter hurdle qualifiers, four Cyclones qualified for prelims tomorrow with Willits (9.09) leading Iowa State hurdlers. A trio of newcomers followed in Kailynn Gubbels (9.11), Kiersten Fisher (9.17) and Mackenzie Carney (9.22).
The Graduate Classic resumes tomorrow beginning at 11:30 a.m.
