AMES, Iowa - The Cyclone swimming and diving team (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) will travel to Iowa City to compete in their first championship-style meet of the season. Iowa State will compete in the Hawkeye Invite Nov. 30-Dec. 2 where both swimmers and divers will compete in all three days of the competition.
THE EVENT - Hawkeye Invite
The Cyclones will see a familiar opponent in Iowa City, meeting up with Nebraska for the second time this season. The Cornhuskers are 5-2 on the season, with a 187-113 win over Big 12 rival Kansas but a 141-160 loss against Iowa in Lincoln.
Other competitors at the Hawkeye Invite include in-state rival and host Iowa, Colorado State, New Mexico State, and Rutgers.
The invite will include the 1650 yard freestyle and platform diving, the first time Cyclone swimmers and divers will compete in these events all season.
Each day of the invite will have preliminary sessions at 10 a.m. central time followed by the finals sessions at 5 p.m. central time.
All three days of the competition will take place at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, located at 309 S. Madison Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52242. Admission to the Hawkeye Invite is free and the entrance will be open 90 minutes prior to the start of each session.
LAST TIME - South Dakota State
Lauren Kimball recorded a career-best 303.65 on the 3-meter dive against South Dakota State. Kimball has secured NCAA zone diving cuts in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in the past two meets. Alaina Breitbach secured first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events for the Cyclones. Winter Craig finished in first place in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.26. Brinley Horras swam a time of 10:33.78 to secure a first-place finish in the 1000 free.
ON DECK - Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series
The Iowa Hawkeyes will travel to Ames to take on the Cyclones in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. The meet will take place Friday, Dec. 8 in Beyer Hall at 6 p.m. Iowa State holds a 16-31 all-time record against Iowa, but the Cyclones have won the last two dual meet matchups against the in-state foe.
