AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving team (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) takes on Iowa (2-1, 1-0 Big Ten) on Friday at 6 p.m. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series will return to Ames as the Cyclones host the dual at Beyer Hall.Â
THE OPPONENT - IowaÂ
Iowa holds the all-time record against Iowa State with a 31-16 dual meet record against the Cyclones. Iowa State has won the last two matchups in the series, including a 156-144 win in Iowa City in 2022. The Cyclones will look to extend the winning streak to three straight, a feat the program has not hit since winning the first seven matchups of the series from 1970-1981.Â
The Hawkeyes are 2-1 on the season, including wins over Nebraska and UNI, with a lone loss to Vanderbilt in Nashville.Â
LAST TIME - Hawkeye InviteÂ
Lauren Kimball had a tremendous weekend in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, with two first-place finishes in the finals. On the 3-meter board, Kimball scored a 325.30, beating a personal best of 303.65 set earlier this season against South Dakota State, which put her at No. 4 on the all-time performers list for Iowa State. Kate Mitchell also had personal bests in the 3-meter and platform events, including a first-place finish in platform diving. The Cyclone divers secured nine zone diving cuts over the three-day competition.Â
In swimming, freshman Emma Kuhn set multiple personal bests in the 200 back and the 200 IM. Andie Quirke hit new bests in the 50 free and 100 free on the way to two top-eight finishes in the events. In the first 1650 free of the season, the Cyclones had four finishers in the top 13, including Brinley Horras, who led the team with a 16:59.78 time, earning her a sixth-place finish.Â
WHAT TO WATCH FOR - Diving and Distance Freestyle
Iowa State will look to keep up their dominance in diving, a key part of their wins over South Dakota and South Dakota State as they took first in all diving events across both meets. For the swimmers, look to the 500 free and 1000 free events as places of strength for the Cyclones. Horras, Corinne Guist, and Sydney Jackson will look to build on strong starts to the season in the distance events and pick up key points in those events.Â
