SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – It was a special week for the Iowa State women's golf team. The Cyclones brought home their second team title of the season after cruising through the 17-team field at the MountainView Collegiate, held at Mountain View Golf Club.
Iowa State set the lowest 54-hole team score in NCAA history after firing a combined 60-under for the tournament. The team posted an 804 (280-265-259) three-round total to claim the NCAA record by 10 shots over Stanford's previous 814 tally back in 2022.
The record-setting 60-under-par from the Cyclones included the lowest team 18-hole round in NCAA history. During the final round, Iowa State carded a 29-under 259 that topped Alabama's previous effort back in 2016, where they carded a 263 at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
Adding to the record-breaking week was Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn, who tied the NCAA individual 54-hole scoring record with a 25-under performance. The freshman earned medalist honors as she finished seven shots better than Caley McGinty of Ohio State University.
Chul-Ak-Sorn began her week with a bogey-free seven-under round of 65. Her round consisted of five birdies and an eagle on her final hole. The freshman entered the second round tied for first place with TCU's Caitlyn Macnab.
In round two, Chul-Ak-Sorn tied the second-lowest 18-hole score in NCAA history with a 10-under 62 that included eight birdies and one eagle on the third hole. She followed up her historic round with an eight-under 64 that included her only bogey of the week.
This was Chul-Ak-Sorn's best finish of the year, and it was her fifth time placing inside the top-five this season. The freshman now holds Iowa State's lowest individual 54-hole score and the school's lowest individual 18-hole round.
Ruby Chou shined in the final round. She posted a career-low, bogey-free 64 that included eight total birdies. Chou also recorded a career-best fourth-place finish after she posted 12-under-par for the week.
After a first-round setback, Pammy Chookaew fired rounds of 67 and 64 to close out the tournament. The freshman began with a two-over round of 74 on day one but played the remaining 36-holes at 13-under-par.
Chookaew set a new career-best finish after placing fifth overall in the individual standings. Her eight-under score of 64 in the final round is now her new career best and her fifth round in the 60s this season.
Liyana Durisic was the fourth Cyclone to place inside the top-six this week. Like Chookaew, Durisic started slow with a one-over round of 73 to open her tournament. The senior followed up her over-par round with scores of 66 and 67 to finish in sixth place.
Taglao Jeeravivitaporn rounded out the top-five with a 54-hole tally of 215 (72-72-71). The senior recorded her 146th career round which ranks seventh all-time in NCAA history. Jeeravivitaporn finished her week in a tie for 33rd place.
Iowa State will return to Arizona for the Big 12 Match Play on Friday, Apr. 7. The final matches will conclude on Sunday, Apr. 9.
