AMES, Iowa - The No. 21 Iowa State women's golf team will start their season Monday, Sept. 11 in Albuquerque, N.M. at the Dick McGuire Invitational. The Cyclonitas finished fifth in the 17-team field last year in the season opener.
The Lineup: Liyana Durisic, Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn, Tess Blair, Keeley Marx, Pammy Chookaew
The Course: The UNM Championship Golf Course was rated as the number one course to play in the state of New Mexico in 1991. The 7,555 yard course has been home to the William H. Tucker Invitational for the past 43 years.
KEY STORYLINES
-Iowa State returns four golfers from last season's NCAA Regional lineup in Pammy Chookaew, Ruby Chou, Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and Liyana Durisic.
-The Cyclonitas opened the season ranked No. 21 in the Mizuno/WGCA Top 25 Poll.
-Iowa State added a pair to the roster this year in freshman Keeley Marx and transfer Tess Blair.
-Marx joins the Cyclonitas after winning the 2022 IMG Academy Junior World Championship.
-Blair spent the first four years of her career at Sacramento State, where she earned First Team All-Big Sky honors all four years. She was also the 2020 Big Sky Freshman of the Year and the Big Sky Player of the Year. She earned medalist honors at the 2021 Big Sky Championship.
-Last year, the team broke the school record for best single-season 54-hole scoring average with a 286.9.Â
-ISU set the lowest 54-hole score in NCAA history with a 60-under 804 total at the 2023 MountainView Collegiate. Chul-Ak-Sorn won the event, tying the NCAA record at 25-under par.
-The Cyclonitas finished sixth at the NCAA Westfield Regional last year, the highest NCAA Regional finish in school history. The team's 860 three-round tally was the lowest NCAA 54-hole score in program history. It was the 13th-straight appearance at an NCAA Regional for ISU.Â
