Iowa State falls to No. 52 Oregon, 4-3

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Despite wins at three singles spots, Iowa State dropped their final non-conference match against No. 52 Oregon on Sunday, 4-3.

Iowa State was once again down to five players due to an injury to Juliette Nask. In doubles, Valeska San Martin and Ashlee Narker battled hard but ultimately fell to Oregon's Jo-Yee Chan and Sophie Luescher, 6-3. This win clinched the doubles point for Oregon giving them a 2-0 lead heading to singles.

Heading to singles, Oregon only needed two wins to clinch the match due to an Iowa State forfeit at the No.6 singles spot. In a tough matchup with Oregon's Karin Young, San Martin fell, 6-0, 6-0. This gave Oregon a 3-0 lead, needing only one more win to clinch the match.

Narker led the charge for the Cyclones taking down Oregon's Chan, 6-4, 6-3 and giving Iowa State the point at the No.3 singles spot. Anna Supapitch Kuearum followed her up by dominating in her second set, taking the match over Luescher 7-6(3), 6-0. These two singles wins would cut Iowa State's deficit to one as the score was 3-2 heading to the last two matches.

Isabella Dunlap tied the match up with a huge win over Nina Geissler, 7-6(4), 6-3. This put all eyes on the No. 4 singles spot where Gala Arangio was taking on Uxia Martinez Moral.

Arangio would take the first set against Martinez Moral 7-5 after trailign early in the set. She dropped the second set 1-6, sending her to the third set where she battled hard but ultimately came up just short against Martinez Moral falling, 3-6. This win for Martinez Moral clinched the win for Oregon, taking the match 4-3 over the Cyclones.

The Cyclones will return to action next week as they start Big 12 play with games against Kansas State and Oklahoma State on Friday and Sunday.
