GADO North Texas Classic

GUADALAJARA, Mexico - Cameron White defied windy conditions to register a fifth-place finish to lead the Iowa State men's golf team at the GADO North Texas Classic Monday. The Cyclones moved up to seventh in a 10-team field despite missing junior Chris Baker who had three top-10 finishes in the fall.
ISU finished ahead of Iowa and UMKC for the second time this year. Houston rallied from a seven-stroke deficit to tie Indiana for the team title. Indiana sophomore Jorge Campillo, the tournament's highest-ranked player, lived up to his billing as he came away with a tie for medalist honors with Houston's Jordan Irwin.
White, who ended Sunday's first two rounds in a tie for sixth, fired a final round of 74 to garner his second career top-10 finish. The Plymouth, Minn., native finished 10th at the Big Four Championship in October.
Joe Cermak saved his best round for last, recording a team-best 71. Cermak jumped up to 17th place after finishing the first two rounds deadlocked at 31st. Cedric Bertin followed up a strong first-day performance with a final round of 77 to put him at 23rd.
Rodney Hamblin also showed improvement in his final turn, scoring a 78. Johnny Larson carded a final round of 80 to give him a three-round score of 246.
Baker withdrew from the competition due to an injury sustained to his neck.
Iowa State is back in action Feb. 26-27 at the All-American Classic in Houston, Texas.
