HOUSTON, Texas ? The Iowa State men's golf team wrapped up play at the All-American Intercollegiate Invitational Tournament Tuesday. The Cyclones tied for seventh place with Louisiana-Lafayette, shooting a 295 in the final round. The Kansas duo of Gary Woodland and Tyler Docking proved to be the deciding factor as the Jayhawks edged third-ranked Lamar by one stroke for the team title. Houston, the defending champion and host school, finished fifth. Woodland, ranked 37th nationally, earned medalist honors while Docking finished runner-up.
Iowa State was in sole possession of seventh-place after Monday's first two rounds but was unable to gain any ground on the rest of the field as Kansas, Colorado, Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana shot its best round of the tournament.
Rodney Hamblin moved up four spots in the player standings, finishing in a tie for 13th after recording a third round of 72. Hamblin finished a total score of 220 and finished in the top 20 for the fourth time this season and eighth in his career. He showed significant improvement from his spring debut where he shot two rounds of 80.
Chris Baker, tied with Hamblin for 17th at the conclusion of Monday's action, fell to 21st despite carding a solid 74 in his final round. Baker, who had three top-10 finishes during the fall season, was just one stroke shy of recording his fourth top-20 finish this season.
Cedric Bertin finished at 28th as he shot a final round of 75. Bertin equaled his best spring score in the second round with a 73 and cut his GADO North Texas Classic score by six strokes, winding up at an 8-over par 224.
Joe Cermak shot his best round of the tournament, a 74, to finish at 9-over par. Cermak moved up to 31st and had a three-round total of 225 while ranking second in the event in holes parred (41), trailing only Daniel Willett of Jacksonville State . Coming off of a fifth-place finish at the GADO North Texas Classic, freshman Cameron White ended with two rounds of 77 to end up in a four-way tie for 43rd. White was one of just seven competitors who scored an eagle.
