AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (0-1) is set to compete in its first double dual of the season where the Cyclones will square off with St. Catherine (0-0) and Omaha (0-0). The competition will begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 25 as Iowa State opens regular season at home.
THE OPPONENT- St. Catherine
The meet marks the first meeting between the Cyclones and the Wildcats. St. Catherine University has faced success this season as they hosted the St. Kate's Pentathlon. Numerous personal bests were set as they claimed the victory. St. Catherine also took part in the University of St. Thomas Relays this season, where the Wildcats took the title in five relay events.
THE OPPONENT- Omaha
Iowa State enters the 18th meeting against Omaha unbeaten. Last season, the Cyclones held a large margin of victory, taking the Mavericks by 85 points. Eleven out of 13 events went in favor of the Cyclones.
Omaha began their season by hosting the Midwest Shootout. In this early-bird invite, the Mavericks claimed a first-place finish and six second-place finishes.
LAST TIME
Iowa State opened regular season competition on the road against Nebraska. Through back-and-forth action, Nebraska came out ahead. The loss within two points signified the closest finish since 2013.
Michelle Schlossmacher Smith posted the first Zone diving qualifying score of the season for the Cyclones. Her score of 265.50 on the one-meter put her atop the leaderboard at both Nebraska and Iowa State's season top performers list.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Relays
The Cyclones grabbed both relay titles against Nebraska and have posted solid times this season. Elynn Tan, Anna Andersen, Emily Haan and Keely Soellner out-touched Nebraska's top team by 2.41 seconds in the 400 free relay. Seconds have already been shaved off relay events since the intrasquad meet, showing the trend will continue in upcoming meets.
ON DECK- South Dakota/Rutgers
The Cyclones will return home to face South Dakota and the Rutgers for a full weekend of action. The South Dakota dual is set for Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. and the Rutgers matchup will begin on Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.
