FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Iowa State junior Tripp Kinney has been named to the Division I Ping All-Central Region Team, announced today by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Kinney is finishing out one of the greatest seasons in Iowa State men's golf history this weekend, competing at the NCAA Championship at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
Kinney is on pace to shatter ISU's season scoring mark, averaging 70.55 strokes per round. He has been at par or below in 28 of 35 rounds this year.
The Waukee, Iowa native won his first career tournament title at the NCAA Louisville Regional to solidify a spot at the NCAA Championship. Kinney also was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Big 12 Championship by tying for eighth with rounds of 70-69-70 (209) at The Greenbrier.
Kinney, who led the team in sub-70 rounds (14) and top-10 performances (6), is the first Cyclone in school history to play in three NCAA Championships. He shaved three strokes off his scoring average from the season before during his record-setting junior campaign.
Kinney is the fourth player in the Andrew Tank era (2011-present) to be named All-Region: Nate McCoy (2012), Scott Fernandez (2013-15), Nick Voke (2016-17).
