Iowa State Men's Golf Season In Review
-Iowa State ended the season ranked No. 36 by Golfweek and No. 37 by Golfstat, qualifying for its sixth NCAA Regional in the last eight years. ISU missed advancing to the NCAA Championship by seven strokes, placing eighth at the NCAA Louisville Regional.Â
-ISU has had a player or team qualify for NCAA Regional competition in each of the last eight seasons: Team (2012, 2014-15, 2017-19), Individuals (Scott Fernandez, 2013; Nick Voke, 2016).Â
-Junior Tripp Kinney was the medalist at the NCAA Louisville Regional, securing the lone qualifying spot to the NCAA Championship. He ended the year ranked 48th nationally by Golfweek and No. 58 by Golfstat.Â
-Iowa State has had a player or team qualify to the NCAA Championship five times in the last eight years: 2012 (Nate McCoy), 2014 (Team), 2017 (Team), 2018 (Team), 2019 (Tripp Kinney).
-Kinney became the second Cyclone to win a NCAA Regional (Nick Voke in 2017) and the first Cyclone to play in three NCAA Championships (2017, 2018, 2019) with a one-shot victory in Louisville (69-65-72). Â
-Kinney made the 54-hole cut and tied for 47th at the NCAA Championship (75-71-74-82=302).Â
-Iowa State had a great start to its spring season by tying for fourth at the Arizona Intercollegiate, recording the second-best 18-hole (270) and 54-hole scores in school history (832).Â
-Kinney was first on the team in stroke average (71.08) and top-10 finishes (6). He also had a runner-up finish at the Windon Memorial and was ranked 48th nationally by Golfweek.
-Kinney, who was at par or below in 28 of 37 rounds this season, made the All-Tournament Team at the Big 12 Championship by tying for eighth (70-69-70=209). His first career tournament victory came at the NCAA Regional, tallying the second-lowest score (206) by a Cyclone in NCAA postseason play.Â
-Kinney's 71.08 stroke average broke the school record and he was named to the Ping All-Central Region team.Â
-Sophomore Lachlan Barker, who was the runner-up medalist at the Badger Invite with a 206, had four-top 10 performances and is second on the team in stroke average (71.15), the second-best average in ISU history.Â
-Barker carded two 65s this season and shot below par in 17 of 33 rounds.Â
-Barker went 4-1 at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament and ended the year ranked 97th nationally by Golfweek.Â
-Sam Vincent was one of three Cyclones to shoot a 65 this season and was third on the team in stroke average at 72.82.Â
-Head coach Andrew Tank finished his ninth season as the Cyclone leader. He's led ISU to unprecedented success: Three NCAA Championship appearances, Six NCAA Regional berths, Three All-Americans, 15 individual medalists, 2 NCAA Championship individual qualifiers and nine tournament titles.Â
