AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men's golf coach Andrew Tank announced today two additions to the Cyclone golf team for the 2021-22 season in Luke Gutschewski (Elkhorn, Neb.) and Hunter Johnson (Ankeny, Iowa).
Gutschewski signed his letter of intent and Johnson accepted an offer of admission as a preferred walk-on.
"I'm excited to welcome Luke and Hunter to our Cyclone Golf family," Tank said. "They both come from great families and are high character individuals with a strong work ethic. We can't wait for the opportunity to support them on their journey as Cyclones."
Gutschewski, the 2020 Nebraska Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year, won the 2020 Nebraska Junior Amateur and was the captain of the 2020 Nebraska Fall Junior Series All-Star team.
The Mount Michael High School star won the 2019 Class B state title and the 2019 Nebraska Junior Match Play title. He was the runner-up at the 2019 Nebraska Junior Amateur.
Gutschewski had an impressive showing at the 2020 Nebraska Open, tying for seventh (8-under) in a professional field. He also was runner up at the AJGA UHY Kansas City Junior.
Johnson has an impressive record as one of the top junior golfers in Iowa. Johnson was the runner-up at the Iowa Junior Amateur in 2019 before claiming the Iowa Junior Amateur title in 2020. He also recorded three top-3 finishes on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour in 2020.
As the top ranked player in Class 4A, he tied for third at the 2020 state championship for Ankeny High School.
