AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men's golf coach Andrew Tank announced today two additions to the Cyclone golf team in Zach May (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Paul Beauvy (Saint-Alban, France).
May and Beauvy signed their letters of intent and will join the squad for the 2022-23 season.
"Zach and Paul will have an immediate impact as freshmen because of their experience and their accomplishments on the golf course," Tank said. "They are great guys, good students and as they grow and mature at Iowa State, they will become leaders."
May's 2021 campaign included victories at the Canterbury Match Play, New Zealand U19 Boys' Championship, Canterbury Men's 4BBB Championship and the New Zealand Interprovincial Men's Team. He tacked on three second place finishes and a pair of third place showings en route to winning the Canterbury Men's Junior Golfer of the Year.
As one of New Zealand's young stars, May qualified and played in the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships four times. He also won the New Zealand North Island U19 Championship and was a Canterbury U19 team captain in 2019.
"Zach will bring experience and a real competitive nature. He has great match play experience and is a team-oriented type of player," Tank added.
Beauvy had a three-week stretch where he recorded a T6th, T7th and a T3rd finishes in 2021. He also had a fourth-place finish at the Grand Prix Jean Louis Jurion tournament. He at the end of the year with a 70.00 stroke average.
Beauvy was a three-time French Vice-Champion at the U12, U14 and U16 levels. He was also named the Vice European team champion at the U16 level and the French Champion at the U18 level.
"Paul moved away from home to train with the French National Team, which showed me his hard work ethic and his commitment to his golf game," said Tank.
