Gutschewski Crowned Champion; Cyclones Finish Fourth

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men's golf team placed fourth at the Marquette Intercollegiate with rounds of 278, 293 and 285 for an 856 total. Luke Gutschewski was the individual champion after recording a 204; the eighth-lowest individual 54-hole total in program history.
"I just played solid through the bag this week," shared Gutschewski. "One thing that stood out was my trust in myself. I knew what I was capable of this week and just did that over and over. That was helpful as the golf course got harder as the week went on."
In round one, Gutschewski fired the sixth lowest round in school history with a bogey-free 65. He followed up his five-under round with a three-over 73 to close out the 36-hole day. During the final round, Gutschewski ran away with the title, firing a four-under 66 to win by four shots.
"Winning golf is hard, there is so many guys and only one person comes out on top," said Gutschewski. "Whenever you can win at any level, I would say that is a pretty big accomplishment, especially now at this level. It is cool to see my name on the list of many Cyclone winners and no matter what happens the rest of the way, my name will be on that list forever and I think that is pretty cool."
Finishing second on the team was Nate Vance. He placed inside the top-10 with a 214 tally after carding back-to-back round of 71 and a 72 in the final round. Vance knocked in 10 birdies this week en route to his career-best finish as a Cyclone.
Lukas Pany continues his strong play, posting a round of 70 and followed it up with back-to-back rounds of 73. Pany placed inside the top-25 for the second time in his career and recorded the second lowest 54-hole score in his career.
Kyo Morishita and Paul Beauvy rounded out the team's top-five. Morishita finished in a tie for 58th place and Beauvy finished in a tie for 71st. Morishita posted a 222 54-hole tally and Beauvy carded a 225.
The Cyclones travel to Hockley, Texas for their final fall season tournament, the Big 12 Match Play. The championship will begin on Oct. 17 and conclude Oct. 19.
