AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior Taglao Jeeravivitaporn and sophomore Ruby Chou are set to play in the NCAA National Championships, beginning Friday in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Cyclone duo is the first pair of players in school history to earn individual invitations to the NCAA Championships.
The Schedule and Course
Arizona State will host the NCAA Championships May 20-25. Jeeravivitaporn will tee off at 3:20 p.m. (CT) on Friday, while Chou will tee off at 3:31 p.m. (CT). For the second round on Saturday, Jeeravivitaporn will start at 10:20 a.m. (CT), while Chou will be at 10:31 a.m. (CT). Tee times for individuals on Sunday will be determined by the leaderboard, with times starting at 10:20 a.m. (CT). Participants will play at the Grayhawk Golf Club, which is setup as a par-72 at 6,384 yards.
Format
The tournament features 54 holes played over the first three days with the top nine individuals on non-advancing teams advancing to the final round of 18 holes on Monday.
The Cyclones
Jeeravivitaporn enters as the number five seed for individuals, while Chou is seeded 11th. At the NCAA Stanford Regional, Chou broke the Iowa State NCAA Regional record for 54 and 18 holes. In her first round, she shot a 68 to break the 18-hole record, while her 211 was the 54-hole record. Jeeravivitaporn's 213 over 54 holes was the second-lowest NCAA Regional score in school history. Jeeravivitaporn is currently ranked 37th in the nation by GolfStat and 53rd by Golfweek.
Postseason History
In 2014, the Cyclones advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first and only time in school history, qualifying out of the NCAA West Regional held at Tumble Creek in Cle Elum, Wash. as a team. Chonlada Chayanun shot a 282 for the Cyclones, as she finished in a tie for seventh. Iowa State finished 23rd as a team.
