Cyclones Conclude Day One at UCF Invite

ORLANDO, Florida – Iowa State wrapped up the first day of the UCF Invitational with three all-time top-10 program marks and two victories to open up outdoor season Friday.

Rachel Joseph continued her outstanding freshman season going out to the fourth-fastest 200-meter dash performance in Iowa State history. Joseph finished 15^th with 23.99 in a field of 94 competitors.

Emily March went out to a third-place finish in her 2023 discus debut with 174-11 (53.32m) while Rebecca Manteuffel placed fourth with a best throw of 161-2 (49.13m). Manteuffel records herself on the all-time ISU performance list at No. 6 with the mark.

Zach Podraza also hit an all-time mark as he notched third in the javelin in his first performance as a Cyclone. Podraza hit the mark of 211-3 (64.40m) to go down as the seventh-best performance in Iowa State history.

Quinton Orr and Kaylee Tobaben also highlighted the day as they locked up victories for the Cyclones. Orr got his in the 2,000m steeplechase with a time of 5:45.91, over seven seconds before the next finisher. Freshman Tobaben took the victory in the 5,000m with 17:25.21.

In the men's shot put, Kevin Sakson put up a strong second-place finish with 58-0 1/4 (17.68m). Other top-five Iowa State finishes included Manteuffel in the shot put, Kaylyn Hall in 400m hurdles, Sakson in the discus and Thai Thompson in 400m hurdles.

Action resumes tomorrow with field events at 8 a.m. CT and running events at 11 a.m. Following the UCF Invite multi-event athletes will head to San Diego, Calif. for the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University. Events take place Friday, March 24 through Saturday, March 25.
