AMES, Iowa – The outdoor track and field postseason is here, with the Cyclones heading to Lubbock, Texas for the 2022 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, starting on Friday. Competition will take part across three days.
Friday's competition starts bright and early with the 10,000m runs at 7 a.m., followed by field events at 11 a.m. and the multi-events at noon. Saturday will see multi-events begin at 11 a.m., field events at 4 p.m. and running prelims at 5 p.m. Competition wraps on Sunday with field events at noon and running finals beginning at 5:30 p.m.
All events will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, here. Live results for the weekend will be provided by Prime Time Timing, here.
The Iowa State men have been second at the past two editions of the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. With the Big 12 boasting three of the top-10 programs nationally, it will be a challenge to keep that run going, the Cyclones will have plenty of individuals in contention. Though Wesley Kiptoo, last season's champ in the steeplechase, 5,000m and 10,000m is gone, the Cyclones have contenders in all three events in Gable Sieperda, Chad Johnson and Thomas Pollard, respectively. The Cyclone mid-distance squad will also be loaded like usual, with Cebastian Gentil and Darius Kipyego among the contenders in the 800m and Jason Gomez and Nehemia Too in the 1,500m.
On the women's side, Dana Feyen enters the weekend as the top seed in the women's 10,000m run, an event Cailie Logue had been the winner of the previous two Big 12 Championships. Emily March will be in contention in the discus on Sunday afternoon, but in a challenging field as she is among three of the top-10 nationally in the event that will be in action.
