AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's track and field teams begin their quest to get to the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week at the NCAA West Preliminaries, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Action at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville begins on Wednesday and will go through Saturday. A complete schedule for ISU's competitors is located at the bottom of the preview.

The goal for this week is to finish in the top-12 to earn a trip to the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Oregon on June 8-11 at Hayward Field.
The Cyclones will have 23 entries in action, with the vast majority of the group looking for first career trips to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The only Cyclone in action this week to have made it to the National Championships is Jason Gomez, who made it last year in the 800m run and will be one of four Cyclones looking to get there, as he will be joined by Cebastian Gentil, Darius Kipyego and Peter Smith.
Thomas Pollard (10,000m run), Kevin Sakson (shot put and discus) and Gable Sieperda (3,000m steeplechase) all made it to the West Preliminaries round in 2021 and will be looking to make the next step this year. Ryan Ford was an NCAA East Preliminaries qualifier in the 10,000m last year for UT-Martin and is entered in both the 5K and 10K this week.
For the ISU women, Kaylyn Hall (100m hurdles and 400m hurdles), Emily March (discus) and Janette Schraft (3,000m steeplechase) have all made it to this stage before and will be looking to make the next step to Eugene. Big 12 5,000m run champion Dana Feyen will be focusing her energy on the 10,000m run on Thursday night, an event she will be joined by teammate Winrose Chesang in.
