Iowa State Opens 2023 with Graduate Classic

AMES, Iowa – Track and field season picks back up Jan. 13-14 with the Graduate Classic, hosted by Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Events begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 and at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Iowa State will send 38 student-athletes to the 2023 opening meet, including mid-year transfer Kaitlyn Burson who will make her debut in the Cardinal and Gold.

LAST TIME OUT – ISU Holiday Invitational

A total of 11 all-time performances were handed in, including the 400-meter dash school record of 53.74 set by Rachel Joseph in the first race of her collegiate career. The time currently leads the nation. Another nation-leading mark was clocked by Cebastian Gentil with an 800-meter run time of 1:47.69, the fourth-fastest in indoor program history. Darius Kipyego (1:48.09) and Peter Smith (1:48.31) joined in setting both top performances in ISU history and in NCAA DI this season. Kipyego's time goes down as the sixth-fastest by a Cyclone and ranks second in the nation while Smith's puts him at No. 9 in Iowa State history and third in the nation.
