FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Iowa State concludes the Arkansas Qualifier, Snowshoe Open and Iowa Open with three event titles and two all-time top-10 program marks.
Iowa State began with the distance medley relay at the Arkansas Qualifier finishing sixth with 9:30.96, the fourth-fastest in program history. ISU ran among a field of two squads who broke the previous collegiate record, Oklahoma State and Washington. Other squads competing included Virginia, Arkansas and Alabama.
Jason Gómez led off with the 1,200-meter leg for a time of 2:52.14. Gómez handed off to Cebastian Gentil for the 400m leg who produced a time of 46.80. Taking on the 800m leg was Darius Kipyego who finalized 1:48.91. The final 1,600m leg was ran by Nehemia Too with a time of 4:03.14.
Peter Smith notched the event title in the 800m run with 1:47.84. Smith came a slim .01 seconds off his personal best.
The throws group took on the Snowshoe Open, kicking it off by taking the top two spots in the women's shot put. Rebecca Manteuffel led with 48-6 1/4 (14.79m) followed by freshman Jadan Brumbaugh with 47-11 3/4 (14.62m).
Manteuffel posted an ISU PR in the weight throw to improve her mark at No. 7 in ISU history with 63-2 (19.25m) for second. Kaitlyn Burson took second with 62-4 1/2 (19.01m) while Emily March finished third with a new PR of 61-3 (18.67m).
Cam Jones once again crossed over 70 feet in the men's weight throw, finishing second with 70-0 1/4 (21.34m). The mark is less than three feet off his school record.
At the Iowa Open, James Ezeonu and Sydney Willits posted second-place finishes in 60-meter hurdles while lowering their personal records in both prelims and finals. On the men's side, Ezeonu posted 8.08 to come within .03 seconds of the No. 10-ranking time in school history. Willits also came .03 seconds off the 10th-fastest program time on the women's side with 8.58.
Ezeonu grabbed another PR in the 200m dash with his fourth-place finish of 22.35.
Sophomore Kiersten Fisher solidified another event title for the Cyclones in the long jump with a personal best mark of 18-2 1/2 (5.55m).
The Cyclones now move onto postseason, taking on Big 12 Indoor Championships next week, Feb. 24-25.
