The Cyclone men are No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Pre-season rankings, with a lot of their most talented student-athletes taking the track this weekend. Festus Lagat already has one school record to his name, going 2:20.88 in the 1,000m last month in Iowa City, and will look to continue his strong start in the men's mile on Saturday. He will be joined by teammates Milo Greder, Chad Johnson and Leonel Perez.
The men's 600-meter premier on Friday will feature Daniel Nixon and Roshon Roomes, both of whom went sub-2:22 in the 1K race which Lagat took the school record. The duo will also be coming back in the 4x400-meter relay premier to close the night out. Also a part of the 4x400 fold, sophomore Charlie Johnson became a critical part of ISU's outdoor 4x4 efforts, and will be taking part on Saturday in the 400-meter dash premier as well.
Saturday will also see Big 12 Indoor 60-meter hurdles bronze medalist Mason Weh get a shot at his specialty event.
On the women's side, newcomer Winrose Chesang is entered to make her Iowa State debut in the women's 3,000-meter run on Friday evening. The Iowa Central transfer was an 11-time NJCAA All-American for the Tritons across track and field and cross country, finishing fourth at the NJCAA XC National Championships in November. She boasts a PR of 10:05.28 at 3K.
Cyclone sophomore Katarina Vlahovic got a strong start to the season in December with a personal best 8.46 in the 60-meter hurdles in Iowa City. She will get her chance to improve again on Saturday.
