AMES, Iowa – Iowa State track and field hosts its first indoor meet of the season on Saturday with the Cyclone Invite. Field events begin at noon, followed by running events at 1 p.m. The meet will feature the Cyclones hosting student-athletes from Drake and Missouri.
To allow competitors and meet personnel room to spread out, no spectators will be permitted at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center. There will be no live video of the meet, and live results will be provided by Wayzata Timing, here.
After the first two meets of the season at Kansas State consisted of mainly sprinters and hurdlers, a big chunk of Iowa State's squad will make its season debut this weekend. For the Iowa State women, the women's 3,000-meter run at 2:50 p.m. is one of the feature events, with the field headlined by All-American and three-time Big 12 Cross Country champion Cailie Logue. Other stars of the Cyclone women's Big 12 Cross Country winning squad will also be in action, including All-Big 12 runners Winrose Chesange, Brenna Cohoon and Dana Feyen.
For the Iowa State men, the mid-distance season and Iowa State debutants will be the ones to watch in the 800-meter run at 2:20 p.m. Leading that group will be All-American and Big 12 600-yard run silver medalist Cebastian Gentil. A pair of notable newcomers are also entered to make their ISU debut in 2019 USATF U20 1,500m National Champion Jason Gomez (a transfer form Notre Dame de Namur) and Alex Lomong (a transfer from Ohio State), who has gone under 1:50 both indoors and out and is the brother of two-time U.S. Olympian Lopez Lomong.
The cancellation of the 2020 outdoor season, and blanket waiver for last season means there will be a large contingent of Cyclones competing unattached in preparation for the 2021 outdoor season in March. Among those are Abby Caldwell and Larkin Chapman for the Cyclone women, while the ISU men have All-Americans Eric Fogltanz, Festus Lagat, Daniel Nixon, Vlad Pavlenko and Roshon Roomes, Big 12 DMR champion Leonel Perez and two-time 60m hurdles bronze medalist Mason Weh among the unattached entries.
