AMES, Iowa – Championship season has come once again for the Iowa State track and field program, as the Cyclones head to Kansas State for the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, beginning on Friday afternoon and running through Sunday evening at R.V. Christian Track.
Big 12 Now on ESPN+ will provide live coverage of running events on Saturday and Sunday. For more info, click here. Live results will be provided by Prime Time Timing, here.
For the No. 7 Iowa State men, this is what everything has been building towards in the pursuit of a first team outdoor conference championship in the outdoor era. The Cyclones are one of five top-25 programs on the men's side in action this weekend, with just No. 6 Texas ahead of ISU in this week's league rankings.
Iowa State's men will be contenders for the wins and multiple scoring positions across all the middle and long distance events, with many strong entries. Two years after claiming the Championships Men's High Point Award after becoming just the second men's competitor to ever score in the steeplechase, 5,000m and 10,000m at the same championships, David Too is entered to do the triple again, and will have company as ISU star Wesley Kiptoo is also entered in all three events. Edwin Kurgat will be back in Big 12 action, having eight conference titles already to his name across his track and cross country career.
For the Iowa State women, this will be another chance to demonstrate the improvements the program has made within a team setting. Cailie Logue is the defending Big 12 Outdoor Champion at 5,000 and 10,000m and will have plenty of company among her teammates who will be battling to get onto the podium. Seventh-year senior Abby Caldwell will also be among the favorites in the women's steeplechase on Saturday evening.
