AMES, Iowa – A busy weekend awaits Iowa State in Southern California, starting on Wednesday with the first of a trio of meets for the track and field teams. Competition begins on Wednesday and continues through Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific. Thursday and Friday will see the Cyclones in action at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California and hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. ISU will also have student-athletes in action at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State, on Friday and Saturday.
The Bryan Clay Invitational will be streamed on FloTrack, here. Live results from all three meets can be found on the track and field schedule page, here.
The Cyclones are coming off a strong weekend at the Sun Angel Classic in Arizona last weekend, with the Iowa State men using their collection of performances to move up 56 spots to No. 40 in this week's USTFCCCA rankings. That surge was led by ISU's middle distance squad, with Jason Gomez (fifth, 1:47.12) and Darius Kipyego (seventh, 1:47.22) entering the NCAA Division I top 10 in the 800-meter run.
The men's distance crew will also get back to work this weekend, with Ryan Ford and Thomas Pollard leading a contingent of Cyclones in the 5,000m run on Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational. On Wednesday in the men's steeplechase, Gable Sieperda will make his season debut in an event he took third in at the Big 12 Championships last season.
The Iowa State women's squad have continued to improve every time they have stepped onto the track in 2022 and will get another chance across the whole squad across the next four days. The women's distance crew will be back in action, with Dana Feyen and Ashley Tutt leading the Cyclone women in the 5K at the Bryan Clay on Thursday.
ISU's hurdles duo of Kaylyn Hall and Katarina Vlahovic each posts collegiate bests in the 100m hurdles last weekend. Their performances put them in the top-50 nationally this year in the 100m hurdles, with Hall the fastest Canadian worldwide so far in the 2022 outdoor season in the event. They will also look to be part of the Cyclones' 4x400m relay team, slated to run on Saturday at the Beach Invitational.
