Cyclones Close out Regular Season with ISU Alumni Invite

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State secured 10 event titles while putting up six top 10 program performances at the ISU Alumni Invitational. Iowa State honored 19 seniors in the final tune-up leading into Big12 Championships next week.
In the men's hammer throw, Zach Verzani went out to record a new personal record of 198-11 (60.65m), the sixth-best mark in ISU history to place third. Joe Ryan (184-2, 56.14m) and Blake Wiederhold (164-11, 50.26m) set season bests in the event. On the women's side, Kaitlyn Burson once again neared her No. 3-ranking ISU mark of 202-7, finishing second with 202-1 (61.60m).
Jadan Brumbaugh hit a new personal best on her first attempt in the shot put and then improved on her mark to produce the seventh-best mark in Iowa State history with 50-11 (15.52m) and finish third. Rebecca Manteuffel also put up and all-time mark with 50-2 3/4 (15.31m) to now rank 10th in program history. Manteuffel then won the discus with a PR of 166-11 (50.88m) to improve her mark as the sixth best in program history.
James Ezeonu hurdled to the eighth-fastest 110-meter hurdle time with a wind-legal 14.08 to win the event. Alec Carr (14.56) and Jack Vetsch (14.91) also hit personal records. James Ezeonu put up another personal record in the 200m dash of 21.48, finishing third right behind Gus Langford who also had a PR with 21.44.
In the 400m dash, Bria Barnes made the move from ranking ninth to sixth on the program performance list as she went sub-54 seconds with 53.80 to win the event.
Zakiyah Amos broke a minute in 400m hurdles for the first time as she continued her first season competing in the event. Amos' time of 59.93 placed her second while coming .57 seconds off the 10th-fastest time in school history.
Iowa State next prepares for Big 12 Championships hosted by Oklahoma Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14.
